I would like to start this new month off with a little wisdom from the Holy Bible and share how it relates to us adventure junkies who own Luxurious Land Rovers! I know there is a verse somewhere in the good book that says something about the wide road leading to destruction and the narrow road which leads to life. As a fellow Land Rover Off Road Enthusiast I think I have discovered the narrow winding road which leads to life and I am glad to share that it is covered with mud and surrounded by obstacles. Fallen trees surround the road to life, along with sharp rocks and dangerous curves. The road to death (in this case signifying the emasculated man) you have a rather dull old guy who drives a Prius (no offense to the eco conscience) and he drives on 4 lane highways and does the speed limit. He also likes to avoid curvy country roads at night and really appreciates the nifty safety features built into his hybrid.

This past weekend we took a trip to Uwharrie with some friends from RoverTym and some members of the Carolina Rover’s Club and a good friend from Rover Automotive in Durham, NC (this is who I trust my Rover to). The guys were eager to hit the trails and boy did we have some fun.

As you can see some had more fun than others. The fallen Rover to the right is driven by Will, Will decided to take a lovely little lady out for an enjoyable afternoon in the woods. In fact, I think I can recall reading in a Mens Health Magazine that if you want to discover how cool a girl is then take her for a 3 hour tour in your Rover and if she doesn’t complain after being in the passenger seat when you rolled your Rover then you have officially found a keeper!

Will was making a great effort at a 4-5 foot ledge on the Daniel trail at Uwharrie National Forest when he got a little to gnarly and managed to “Flop” his 1996 Land Rover Discovery on it’s side!

Unfortunately my mechanic wasn’t being very modest. He took with RRC all modded out with the best RoverTym has to offer and decided to simply do what everyone else either couldn’t do or struggled to do! His Range Rover Classic was unstoppable and possibly the most capable vehicle at Uwharrie on that Labor Day Weekend! To the left you see Larry crawling up a steep ledge which I couldn’t get over:(
But I have to admit, this 1972 Lightweight Series Land Rover is what stole my heart! Can you believe that this was my first time watching a series Rover off road! I couldn’t have been more surprised. This Lightweight Series is driven by Scot of the Carolina Rover’s Club and it did awesome. I honestly thought that a Rover from the early 70’s would be a bit outdated but this right hand drive piece of history did awesome and Scot did things my P38 couldn’t handle.

At the end of the day, realized that we had all chosen the road less traveled. Yes, this Labor Day weekend we celebrated our redemption from being emasculated men by finding some good adventure at Uwharrie National Forest.
